Oh-my-gosh I still can’t get over the beautiful autumnal colours and feel of the beautiful @maplehursthouse in the Scottish Borders. I used a mix of colour as well as black and white film to capture the timeless feeling of their day.

Megan & Art.. the welcome party at @wedderliehouse all taken #onfilm 🎞️ (#portra400 & #portra800)

I absolutely loved photographing Megan & Art’s laid back wedding welcome party the evening before their wedding. Fun vibes with pizzas, Russian wedding games and a jam session. Obsessed!!

Having me there there to photograph your welcome party means:
✨ more candids and informal group shots of all your friends & family
✨ I can get to know everyone ahead of the wedding day so they feel more comfortable in front of the camera
✨ A chance to have and speeches or wedding traditions that aren’t part of your wedding day photographed
✨ some extra couple shots if you haven’t had an engagement shoot

How to blend film and digital on a wedding day to creating a cohesive wedding story.

For the last 18 months I’ve been blending film and digital in my photography work. When delivering wedding galleries, I separate the film and digital frames but I like them still to feel cohesive.

My digital edit style is different to how my film photos look and I’m totally okay with that. I always felt like digital edits to look like film never look at good of actual film. Why try to emulate it (although I always get comments about how much my b&w preset looks like film!).

Here’s a few things I think about when photographing a hybrid of film and digital on a wedding day:

– keeping my photography style consistent by using the same lenses, camera settings and shooting style

– using black & white film to tie the narrative of the story together

– thinking about colour and how it translates in different film stocks and digital edits. My digital edits are timeless and true to colour, I also make sure there is colour consistency to the film scans.

With @_with_wonderfords__ and Alan’s wedding, the flowers as well as the blend of black & white film tied together the photos perfectly.

When you print create a wedding album, my goal is for you to feel like you can blend together a range of shots ✨

There are couples where I leave their wedding day and feel like we are more like they are friends than clients. Cindy & Neil are one of those couples, with their warm and friendly nature but brilliant sense of humour I’ve loved getting to know them both.

I had the honour of photographing their wee wedding at City Chambers last year just after they found out they were expecting baby Hamish. It was a joy to be back for their bigger day this year (as well as photographing their friends Helen & Bobbie last October!).

They chose the incredible @timberyard10 for their venue for the day. With a ceremony in the courtyard followed by a meal and reception in the main restaurant. Omg the food there is absolutely unreal!!!

The beautiful September weather we’ve had recently reminded me of this ethereal engagement shoot. It’s always an absolute honour photographing my friends in love.

@ivorylovelust & @bacchanalian.detritus just have the most amazing connection and love for each other. I loved this day exploring the magical Maspie Den as well as their dream of a wedding. I’m so buzzing for their next chapter in life as parents.
