Throwback to one of my 2024 highlights ✨ @irlbacongirl and Jason’s beautiful day at one of my favourite venues Thirlestaine Castle last May. Shot on digital ( both my mirrorless #canonr5 and my retro original #canon5d from 2005) and 35mm film.

The most elegant setting for the most magical day with guests coming from USA and London. It was an absolute dream to work with the incredible @platter_and_pop again and OMG I still can’t get over the flowers and the desert station!!

It’s my goal this year to get back into the darkroom more.
Some film I developed and scanned myself from @velvet.and.linen.workshops last April.

This was my second time developing colour film. I was much happier with how these turned out and did a lot better with the developing and drying this time yay.

It’s crazy how much the smallest of water marks, scratches and dust spots show up in the scans. I’ve not photoshopped anything out on this post. I love the authenticity of it.

Scanned at home on the #plustek8200i using #silverfastse9 and @negativelabpro – still very much learning the scanning process. It was sooo helpful to have the lab scans from the other rolls from this shoot to compare. Preferring using the dedicated 35mm scanner over scanning using a digital camera.

Happy New year and congratulations to everyone who has gotten engaged over the festive period!!! A few faves from 2024 #onfilm

I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has had me photograph their stories in 2024.

It’s crazy that I started last year with only 8 weddings booked but ended up with a completely full calendar of 33 weddings (plus a few extra as a second photographer). It was an absolute joy of a year full of weddings, proposals, couple shoots, family shoots and a few editorials and styled shoots in the mix.

As much as it’s been a year of a lot of highs, behind the scenes though the reality is that I’ve actually been struggling. In a social media world of curated best bits I’ve found looking at “best of” and highlight reels really difficult.

Back in 2020 I was diagnosed with endometriosis after a struggle for over a decade of being dismissed and gaslit by doctors. I’ve been on a waitlist for treatment on the NHS for nearly 2 years with another 2 years wait.

I opted to go private with a specialist so I could have my treatment done and recover without it impacting any of my work. I am having keyhole surgery tomorrow and I’m equal parts scared, nervous and excited. I’m so grateful and blessed to be able to do this. If anyone wants to know anything about Endo I am an open book so feel free to ask away!

I will be out of office over the next couple of weeks whilst I recover. I’ll try and keep up with emails where I can but it might take me a few days to get back to you!

I still have availability for between 4-6 weddings for 2025 including summer dates. I have plenty to 2026 availability so please get in touch 🙂

Makena & Ben’s vow renewal on my favourite beach in East Lothian earlier this month. With added cuteness from their lab Molson ✨ #onfilm (35mm & 120)

Just wrapped up my 2024 wedding editing with Rosie and Jacks magical winter day last month at @mansfieldtraquair .

The loveliest couple whose story began with them being childhood friends before meeting again as adults and falling for each other.

The snow fell in the morning, @deanjohnstonefilms and I got stuck in the snow in our uber on the way to Rosie’s bridal preps in one of my favourite Edinburgh buildings, Well Court Hall. We walked along the water of leith walkway to Dean Village in a winter wonderland! It was like something out of a Christmas movie.

The planned elegant and timeless day in the most beautiful setting at Mansfield Traquair in Edinburgh New town. A string quartet played Rosie down the aisle to one of mr favourite Scottish songs “Wild Mountain Thyme”. They had a personal and special humanist ceremony, the most epic confetti moment and Jacks sister made their incredible cake!!

Rosie’s cousin sang their first dance song (Al Green – let’s stay together – loooved that!!) and the party continued with the incredible Soul Establishment band (funk and soul music is my fave kind of wedding reception vibe!).

Im off to enjoy a few days off over Christmas but will be working between Christmas and New Year before taking a proper break in mid-January.

I get a lot of questions about film photography and how it’s going to look in a dark venue. The answer is, full of atmosphere and drama. I could have shared almost every frame from this dream of a day.

I pushed my film stocks, used some flash and let the colours and feel of the film shine through. I’m absolutely ready to embrace all my upcoming autumn and winter weddings.

Creativity and photography is part of my family history and DNA. One of my reasons for wanting to be a photographer and capture weddings is to create a visual legacy for the people that I document.

I’m so proud to be able to trace my own family history all the way back to the mid 1500s in Edinburgh and Dysart in Fife. We have family photos as far back as 1894.

My family history includes: coach painting, farming, running a bakery shop, rugby, painting, music amongst many other fascinating things.

I first became interested in photography as a child and begged my dad to show me how to use my parents film camera. They bought me a point and shoot which I used during the school holidays. I took up photography as part of higher art at school learning how to shoot on film as well as developing and printing my own photos. I never stopped taking photos and I’m so grateful I get to call this my job.

This year marks 15 years since I shot my first wedding (Eak!!) and around 20 years since those darkroom days at school. Slide along for a peek into my photography & family history:
