I genuinely cannot believe I’ve not shared Emma & Stuart’s gorgeous day at The Edinburgh Grand and Lady Libertine from last September.

An intimate, city-centre celebration with vintage glamour woven through every detail. Emma’s dress giving full Grace Kelly energy. Stuart’s tartan trews. And of course… Shuggie, their very good boy, absolutely stealing the show.

It was one of those days that felt cinematic from start to finish. Soft window light, glossy marble floors, rich wood interiors, cobbled streets, and that perfect mix of old-school elegance and modern edge.

Captured on a blend of film and digital, with a few digital frames using my film camera flash for that punchy, nostalgic glow. I don’t often share much digital work on here, but for anyone curious about how I combine the two… this is the vibe.

My aim is always cohesion. I use similar focal lengths and shoot with the same intentionality. My digital editing stays timeless and true-to-life so it sits seamlessly alongside the film scans. No harsh trends. No heavy presets. Just consistency, texture and light.

Because whether it’s analogue or digital, what matters most is the feeling.

I’ve never really felt like I “fit” neatly into the wedding industry. I’ve always done things my own way. A love of film photography, old movies, vintage clothes, music, art, texture, mood, romance plus a bit of chaos, and a lot of heart.

I didn’t come up through a traditional path, and I’ve never tried to make work that looks like everyone else’s. I just followed what felt true to me and somehow along the way found the most wonderful couples who got it.

One of my biggest values as a photographer has always been this: I want my couples to feel celebrated, safe, and comfortable enough to be vulnerable in front of my camera. You don’t need to perform. You don’t need to pose perfectly. You get to just be yourselves.

From learning photography in the darkroom at high school, to shooting my first wedding back in 2009, to falling back in love with film and building a business around story, feeling and connection… this has always been about people first, aesthetics second.

So yeah. Very grateful. Very emotional. Very proud of this slightly crazy, analogue hearted, doing it my own way journey.

And to every couple who’s trusted me with their story, thank you. I love you. Truly.

Ethereal, vintage wedding inspiration with a little nod to Wuthering Heights… all candlelight, stained glass, soft shadows and dramatic textures. Basically my dream brief.

These images are all from a roll of Candido 800T (tungsten-balanced cinematography film) and honestly… I’m a bit obsessed. It’s made for moody, low-light, cinematic scenes, and this space was begging for it. Warm candles, cool window light, deep shadows, glowing highlights, it’s exactly the kind of atmosphere this film loves.

I also shot across some other 35mm and medium format film. I cannot wait to see how the rest of the rolls come back. You already know film is where my heart lives, especially when the light is doing something this magical.

From art history lectures to a winter wedding full of sparkle ✨

These two met at the University of Glasgow back in 2015 while studying Art History, quickly becoming best friends over early modern art, trips to the GFT, and a shared love of Morrissey. When Rose returned to the US in 2017, daily FaceTimes turned into flights across the Atlantic. Eight years later, PhDs completed, a pandemic survived in a tiny studio flat, and countless art-filled adventures later they got married where they met in Glasgow. From the moment I first chatted to this pair on zoom we instantly bonded over a shared love of art and music.

Their wedding felt like an extension of all of that history. A dress with pure Grace Kelly energy, dark romantic interiors, winter light, candle glow, and that quiet, cinematic elegance you only get at winter.

Shooting film in low light is always a challenge, but the magic is worth it. I used portra 800 and HP5 pushed to 1600 to hold onto the atmosphere, the shadows, and that beautiful winter sparkle (with a double exposure for some creative flair) 🎞️

A day rooted in friendship, art, and love. Photographed slowly, artistically, intentionally, and with feeling.

From the pink dining room of dreams to their bold, joy-filled colour palette, every detail felt like it had stepped out of a painting. It was romantic, playful, and completely them.

What made it even more special? Capturing it on film. The grain, the tones, the texture brought such warmth and depth to a day already full of feeling.

The most gorgeous light leaks, lens flair and soft magic that you can only get on film.

When they first got in touch, they described their vision and I was instantly hooked:
“We loved the Italian feel of the cobblestone courtyard, so we’re taking inspiration from that. We’re a relaxed couple and our main priority is making sure people are well fed, the drinks are flowing, and there’s plenty of laughter. We’re thinking fresh white flowers, candles, Aperol and Prosecco, a gelato truck, and late-night pizza…”
Honestly?

A total vibe. Aperols flowing, gelato in the sunshine, late-night pizza, and so much laughter, what a dream to capture.

Photographing on film in low light with no flash.

Photographing weddings on film in dark spaces is one of my favourite challenges. Candlelight, window light, soft pools of light and shadow plus how to work with them. It’s about slowing down and really seeing what the light is doing.

I started my photography journey as a teenager photographing live music concerts on b&w film. Reading and watching the way light falls and how subjects move in it is something that’s always been core of how I photograph.

For these frames, I was thinking about direction of light. Positioning people near windows. Looking for Rembrandt-style light. Deciding where I want the highlights to fall, how deep I’m happy for the shadows to go, and letting the midtones hold the emotion. Spot metering with intention of the final feel of the image.

Technically, this meant often shooting wide open and trusting my instincts. Film stocks, cameras & lenses used:
– Canon 1V + 35mm f/1.4 (wide open) on Delta 3200, plus Cinestill 800T pushed to 1600 to hold onto the warmth of candlelight
– Pentax 645N + 75mm at f/2.8 on Portra 800, also pushed to 1600 and using slow shutter speeds
– Using a Pro Mist Filter for softness and glow where it felt right

When using slower shutter speeds I’m grounding myself, holding the camera steady, taking a breath before releasing the shutter. Film lets me get away with that in a way digital never quite does.

There’s grain, movement, imperfection but artistic intention.

Low-light film isn’t about fighting the darkness, it’s about embracing it and letting the mood lead the frame.

There’s something about black & white film during the getting ready moments that just gets me. It’s my favourite time of a wedding day to turn to b&w film.

The light falling through tall windows. The strong lines of old buildings. Hands fastening buttons, tying ribbons, smoothing fabric. Reflections caught in mirrors. Small pauses before the day unfolds.

These frames are all about simplicity and intention. Stripping things back to light, shadow, shape and emotion. No distractions, just the story as it’s happening.

Most of these were shot on HP5, usually pushed to 800 or 1600 to handle low light and keep that beautiful grain and mood. With a mix of Tri-X or Delta 3200 when things got extra dark. Shot a mix of 35mm and medium format film, depending on the space and the pace of the moment.

Photographing on film in these conditions is always a little unpredictable, but that’s what I love. You trust the light, slow down, and let the moments breathe.

Quiet. Intimate. Honest.

A few 2025 favourites, all captured on my square medium format love, the Mamiya 6 🎞️

This camera makes me incredibly nostalgic. My parents have so many square-format photographs from the early days of their relationship that I’ve always been obsessed with. Their honeymoon, family gatherings, road trips, and my dad’s beloved classic Minis. Shooting square always feels like tapping into that visual language of memory.

I love pairing this camera with a tiny bit of Vaseline on the filter for that soft, dreamy haze. Just enough glow to let the light breathe without losing the moment.
