Hello!

Edinburgh is one of the most incredible cities to live in in the world. From the incredible elegant Georgian architecture and gardens of the New Town through to the quirky closes and romance of the Royal Mile and old town. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. I have lived in Edinburgh my whole life and I always find new inspiration living here.

As a wedding photographer, I have photographer over 250 weddings across Scotland I wanted to share some of my favourite venues I have photographed at across Edinburgh (and just outside the city) to help you find that perfect place to get married.

Looking for soemthing quirky, and that wee bit different or unique… read on!

1. KIRKNEWTON STABLES

For couples looking for an elegant, yet rustic venue Kirknewton Stables is a great choice. There is plenty of outdoor space giving you a lot of scope for an outdoor ceremony and drinks reception. The venue is a blank canvas space allowing you to really put your own stamp on the day. It is light and bright for photos, I love the grounds and gardens which are well maintained.

2. CARLOWRIE CASTLE

For couples looking for a bold and modern choice, Carlowrie Castle is a perfect option. It has been expertly renovated, with incredible stylish dark interiors and a real luxury feel. Simple paired back details work perfectly here as the venue really shines, yet it is neutral with monochrome styling if you had a particular colour scheme in mind. With onsite accommodation you cal really make the most of your celebrations. The orangery is a bright and airy space, to really make those photos look incredible, I’ve photographed here in all weather conditions and there is enough space for your guests to enjoy the day without going outside.

The Georgian architecture of the Edinburgh New Town is my favourite thing about living here. The Drawing Room of The Georgian House makes a perfect ceremony spot for an intimate wedding seeped in grandure and elegance.

5. THE ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS

The Botanical Gardens have always been a special place to me, my great-grandparents lived on Inverleith Row and I spent a lot of time here growing up. The Botanical Gardens is the most magical place I could think to get married in this city, from an outdoor ceremony under the famous redwood trees to being surrounded by the most incredible flowers. My favourite space for an indoor ceremony and reception is the Victorian Caledonian Hall looking over the rock garden; whilst the John Hope Gateway is ideal for couples looking for a more modern feel.

Nestled down a wee close just off the Royal Mile, Riddle’s Court is the hidden gem of Edinburgh’s wedding venues. Perfect for elopements or small weddings; Riddle’s Court means you are right in the heart of the Old Town. The close itself is full of quirky charm with The Geddies Room featuring the most INCREDIBLE ceiling, and the two of you can stay onsite in the Kings Chambers.

7. SUMMERHALL

8. PRESTONFIELD HOUSE

Prestonfield House is the perfect venue for couples looking to really bring in the historic feel of Edinburgh within elegant settings and incredible food. Nestled away behind Athur’s seat you really feel like you are in a stunning rural estate, yet you are just a short drive from the centre of Edinburgh. The Italian and Leather Room’s are perfect for couples looking for a more intimate elopement, the Garden Room is a bright and airy room for up to 50 guests whilst the Stables Ballroom is perfect for a larger wedding. Prestonfield to me really shines for Autumn and Winter weddings with the rich interiors and colours. Bonus point is you are a Harry Potter Fan is that JK Rowling has dined in the Salon Privee!

9. GHILLIE DHU

For couples looking for an alternative venue, Ghillie Dhu is the perfect choice. Full of goth charm, warmth and elegance it created a cosy feel to the day which feels like you have just stepped out of Hogwarts. The only downside the Ghillie Dhu is the lack of outside space for your photos, look into getting access to Rutland Square gardens where the light is beautiful as the sun sets for group shots.

Carberry Tower is perfect for couples looking intimate grandeur. Dating pack to 1480, it has been a gathering place for Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses and over the centuries. I love this venue for smaller weddings and elopements as your guests can all stay on site, or for a larger day they also have a marquee on site.
