It was such a joy to go back to where I grew up and photograph Sarah and Ryan for their pre-wedding shoot. The beautiful ruins of an old estate beside my grandparents house on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Where I used to daydream about being Mary from “The Secret Garden” and hear stories from my uncle about the eccentric old man that used to live the house. Thank you for trusting my vision ✨

All drama, all romance… exactly how I love it.
There’s something about black & white film that strips everything back to feeling. No distractions, just light, shadow, connection. The way it holds emotion feels closer to memory than reality. I was photographing a lot of these at like 1/30th and there’s something about the emotion of a slow shutter speed on b&w film the digital just capture.
And these two… Kitty & Rene are completely magnetic together and like something out of my creative dream world.
Shot on medium format 400TX and 35mm HP5, both pushed +2 for that extra grit, contrast and mood I’ll never get tired of.

I love using creative shoots to experiment with creative ideas that I can bring into my wedding photography. Across this set of images I blended film and digital and used a cinematography filter for the creative blur.
Photographed on the 5D classic DSLR from 2005 as well as medium format and the Pentax 645 medium format camera and my canon 1V 35mm film camera.
Over the last few years I’ve been putting a focus on creating with intent. Going back to using a retro DSLR has really helped me with that alongside shooting film. Using a retro DSLR and shooting in a film like way is such a good way to push forward your skills as a photographer.

These two have the most romantic story: they met on an oyster farm in Japan (I mean… come on! How perfect is that?). Their wedding was a beautiful blend of cultures, travel, and love, with family and friends joining them from Japan, the USA, and across the UK to celebrate in the heart of Edinburgh.
A day full of elegance, connection, and so much joy… and this is just a tiny glimpse of it. The film photos just capture the energy of the day so perfectly 🎞️

Some film frames from Ilhem & Alex’s beautiful vintage romance of a day at Kirknewton Stables in June. Having met studying as classical musicians, music was a huge part of their day. From their friends playing during the ceremony to a Scottish ceilidh in the evening. Ilhem’s love of flowers was everywhere from her sculptural floral dress, to the beautiful colourful flowers. They embraced their multicultural families with international foods, Ilhem’s gorgeous henna and drinking from the Quaich.

Esin & Chris’ day back in June was an absolute dream and I’m so obsessed with all my film scans 🎞️
When they first got in touch, they told me:
“We picked Dundas because it’s in Edinburgh, where Chris and most of his family and friends are. It’s also such a beautiful and picturesque location. We want the theme to feel more like a fantasy ball!”
And Scotland delivered for them! A blanket of mist rolled in around Dundas Castle, making the whole place feel like something from a movie.
Sometimes the weather you don’t plan for creates the most magical photographs. The mist, the castle disappearing into the background, and Esin & Chris in the middle of it all… their fantasy ball really did come to life. ✨

Double exposures #onfilm ✨🎞️
I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with double exposures over the last year. There’s something so magical about layering two frames together and creating an image that feels somewhere between a photograph and a memory.
I love that they’re impossible to fully control. A little collaboration between my instinct, light and chance. Sometimes they don’t work at all… and sometimes they create something far more beautiful than I could have planned.
They remind me why I love film so much. Not everything has to be perfect. Sometimes happy accidents become your favourite photographs (like the last frame where I accidentally shot over a partly shot roll 😂)
